Democratic Majority for Israel, a new organization of Democrats who support a strong U.S.-Israel relationship, today announced two new hires for its leadership team. Joel Wanger has joined as political director and Rachel Rosen will serve as communications director.

“I’m delighted to have Joel and Rachel on board with DMFI,” said Mark Mellman, CEO of Democratic Majority for Israel. “Together they bring years of experience and accomplishments in political and communications strategy, an extensive record of working to advance progressive values, and a deep commitment to strengthening U.S.-Israel relations. Joel and Rachel will develop strategies to maintain Democratic support for Israel, support pro-Israel Democrats and counter Republican attempts to make Israel a wedge issue.”

Joel Wanger is an experienced campaign operative and strategist who has worked for presidential campaigns, members of congress, congressional candidates, and national and state Democratic Parties. As the Midwest Regional Field Director for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC), Joel was part of a team that helped flipped nine districts from red to blue. Prior to the DCCC, Joel worked at the Nevada Democratic Party, the Ohio Democratic Party, and Hillary for America where he executed get-out-the-vote campaigns that touched millions of potential voters. Additionally, Joel has been involved with Organizing for Action and Scouts for Equality and was an Israeli Government Fellow.

Rachel Rosen is an accomplished communications and public affairs strategist. Prior to joining DMFI, Rachel was a senior director for broadcast communications at the Center for American Progress. In that role she enhanced the visibility of the institution and its work across all broadcast and digital media platforms. Before that she spent more than a decade at CNN producing public affairs shows, most recently “State of the Union” and “Inside Politics.” She won several journalism awards including an Emmy for her work on the 2012 presidential election. She has provided media training to members of the Obama administration and dozens of state lawmakers across the country.
