DMFI’s Impact in 2020

During the 2020 Democratic election cycle, Democratic Majority for Israel worked to advance the U.S.-Israel relationship and to continue the Democratic Party’s strong track record of support for our alliance with Israel. We tracked the Democratic primary candidates’ views on Israel, organized grassroots supporters in early primary states and worked with national, state and local partners to ensure that Democratic Party platforms continue to reflect support for the U.S.-Israel relationship.

National and State Party Platform Successes

At the national level, DMFI successfully advocated for a strong platform that expands upon the Democratic Party’s proud tradition, and Joe Biden’s long history, of supporting a strong U.S.-Israel relationship. We submitted testimony to the Democratic Party on the importance of the U.S.-Israel relationship within the platform, and attended the virtual Democratic National Convention. Read our statement on the Democratic National Platform here.

We also led efforts across several states for a pro-Israel state Party platform. We led a coalition effort in California, along with several pro-Israel organizations, to fight against a series of anti-Israel amendments to the party platform. The amendments, none of which passed, would have advanced policies that threatened the existence of Israel as a Jewish state, cut off all aid to Israel and endorsed the BDS Movement (Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions) targeting Israel. Over 850 delegates worked to defeat the amendments, along with party leaders, activists and elected officials. Read our statement on the California Democratic Party platform here.

2020 Democratic Presidential Candidates on Israel

To help educate the public and our members, we followed all 2020 Democratic presidential candidates and their positions on Israel during the primary season. Each campaign provided official statements, while we collected and made available on our website news articles that discussed the candidates’ views on Israel.

Early Primary State Organizing and Activism

DMFI engaged early in the 2020 primaries working to engage and mobilize pro-Israel Democrats around the country to take action in early states, participate in caucuses and vote in primaries.
