“I’m proud to stand side-by-side with DMFI in the battle for the soul of this great nation.” – Vice President Joe Biden
Today, Democratic Majority for Israel, the voice of pro-Israel Democrats, welcomed a letter of thanks from Vice President Joe Biden.
The letter was read live online by Tony Blinken, senior advisor to the Biden campaign who joined Democratic Majority for Israel for a discussion on the U.S.-Israel relationship in a Biden administration.
“I’m honored to have earned the early support of the Democratic Majority for Israel, and your continued engagement will be vital as we build toward the general election,” wrote Biden. “DMFI has been a powerful voice standing up for our party’s principles and advocating for a strong enduring partnership between Israel and the U.S., grounded in our democratic values.”
Vice President Biden went on to say, “I look forward to continuing to strengthen the partnership between our nations as president, including by working toward a two-state solution that results in a secure, democratic, and Jewish State of Israel living side-by-side in peace with a Palestinian state… I’m proud to stand side-by-side with [DMFI] in the battle for the soul of this great nation.”
During the event, Mr. Blinken stressed that, as president, Vice President Biden would “sustain and deepen military and intelligence cooperation between our countries and ensure Israel’s quantitative military edge,” and that his administration would uphold the Obama-Biden Administration’s 10-year Memorandum of Understanding, stating Biden “would not tie military assistance to Israel to any political decisions it makes, full stop.” While committing a Biden Administration to fight efforts to delegitimize Israel at the United Nations and its agencies and within the BDS Movement, Blinken also described Israel as “setting a profound example for what the rest of the region could and should be as hopefully countries evolve toward greater freedom, greater openness, and greater democracy.”
As a freshman U.S. senator, Joe Biden visited Israel in 1973 during his first trip abroad, meeting with then-Prime Minister Golda Meir and her staff, including future Prime Minister Yitzak Rabin. Since then, Biden has worked with every Israeli leader to strengthen Israel’s security and fortify the U.S.-Israel alliance.
As part of the Obama-Biden Administration, Vice President Biden helped advocate for American support for Israel’s Iron Dome defense system, saving countless Israeli lives from indiscriminate rocket attacks. Under his leadership, the Obama-Biden Administration signed the ten-year Memorandum of Understanding between the United States and Israel, guaranteeing American military aid until 2028.
