Democratic Majority for Israel (DMFI) today announced the election of Harriet P. Schleifer to its Board of Directors. A deeply respected leader in the American Jewish community and a retired education law attorney, Schleifer brings decades of experience in advocacy, education, and leadership to the organization’s mission of strengthening support for the U.S.-Israel relationship within the Democratic Party.
“Harriet is a distinguished advocate and leader,” said Board Chair Kathy Manning. “Her lifelong dedication to advancing the security and well-being of the Jewish people and strengthening the bonds between the U.S. and Israel aligns perfectly with DMFI’s mission. We’re delighted to have her join our Board where we will all benefit from her insight, experience, and expertise.”
“We’re thrilled to welcome Harriet to DMFI’s Board of Directors,” said Brian Romick, President & CEO of Democratic Majority for Israel. “Her extraordinary record of achievement and deep commitment to the U.S.-Israel relationship will be invaluable as we continue to build support for Israel and Democratic values.”
“I’m honored to join Democratic Majority for Israel’s Board at such a pivotal moment,” said DMFI Board Member Harriet P. Schleifer. “We are living in a polarizing and fractured time, with disinformation shaping too much of the national conversation, especially regarding Israel. DMFI plays a crucial role in providing trusted, balanced, and well-researched information that reflects the complexity of the Middle East and reinforces our Democratic values. I’m excited to contribute to the advocacy and education work that makes this possible,” added Schleifer.
Schleifer has held leadership positions at the American Jewish Committee; Jewish Museum in New York; UJA-Federation of Westchester, New York; Washington Institute for Near East Policy; Jewish Broadcasting Service (JBS); Plaza Jewish Community Chapel; Boundless Israel; and her synagogue. She currently serves on the International Advisory Council of the Israel Democracy Institute and is a member of the Executive Committee of Cornell University and Chapel Haven Schleifer Center. She also chaired the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations for two years, including during and after the October 7 attacks.
