After President Biden and Israeli Prime Minister Bennett met Friday in Washington, Mark Mellman, president and CEO of Democratic Majority for Israel made the following statement:

“We applaud the important and fruitful meeting between President Joe Biden and new Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett. It is both heartening and important to see these two leaders establish a warm personal relationship and work to prevent partisan rancor from infecting the relationship, while also reaching agreement on key policy issues.

“Prime Minister Bennett brought with him a new, and much needed spirit of cooperation, while President Biden vowed an unshakable partnership between Israel and the United States.

“We are deeply gratified by President Biden’s ironclad support for Israel’s security and right to self-defense, his administration’s full support for replenishing Israel’s Iron Dome system and his full support for deepening the peace agreements between Israel and Arab states in the region. We also share the president’s commitment to a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

“Crucially, the president clearly articulated his commitment to ensure Iran never obtains a nuclear weapon as well as to deter and contain Iran’s dangerous behavior more broadly.

“Any two leaders, any two governments are going to have disagreements from time to time. Prime Minister Bennett and President Biden, whose governments are among the most diverse in the world, wisely agreed to work through those disagreements largely behind closed doors, as befits close allies, and prevent the U.S.-Israel relationship from becoming a political football.”
