After the House of Representatives voted to impeach President Trump today, Democratic Majority for Israel President and CEO Mark Mellman issued the following statement:
“Time and again, President Trump has disgraced the office of the presidency and dishonored our country. After coddling far-right extremists and antisemites throughout his term and embracing false conspiracy theories, he directly incited a deadly insurrection at the Capitol. He has not only utterly failed to protect the Constitution, but actively encouraged an assault against our most sacred democratic institutions.
“President Trump must be removed from office, and we applaud Democrats in Congress for leading efforts to protect our democracy and thank all Members, of both parties, who voted to impeach him today. Those Republicans who stood on the floor of the House today and continued spreading lies and hatred should be ashamed.
“We call on the Senate to begin its trial immediately, as is their constitutional duty.”
