On the one-year anniversary of the signing of the Abraham Accords, the diplomatic agreements which normalized Israel’s relations with the UAE and set the stage for additional agreements with Bahrain and Morocco, Democratic Majority for Israel CEO Mark Mellman issued the following statement:

“Today we join the Biden administration, the governments of Israel, the UAE, the Kingdom of Bahrain, and Morocco in celebrating the Abraham Accords, peace agreements between Israel and these Arab states — a historic diplomatic achievement that has quickly ushered in a new era of cooperation among these nations,” said Mark Mellman, President and CEO of Democratic Majority for Israel.

“We’re already witnessing the immediate and concrete benefits of the new agreements — from opening embassies to direct flights between countries, to economic cooperation, scientific exchange, and enhanced security ties. These are not just agreements among states, they are bringing people together who were long separated by hatred and creating understanding and common purpose,” added Mellman.

Following the agreements, the UAE and Bahrain observed Holocaust Remembrance Day for the first time.

“These diplomatic breakthroughs are important steps towards peace and stability in the region.

“More and more countries, once at best skeptical of Israel, are recognizing both the mutual benefits of having a strong relationship with Israel and Israel’s right to exist as a Jewish state in peace and security. We can only hope the Palestinian Authority comes to similar conclusions.

“We applaud the Biden administration for working to expand and strengthen these agreements while continuing to encourage a lasting peace between Israelis and Palestinians.”
