Today, Mark Mellman, President and CEO of Democratic Majority for Israel, made the following statement:

“Donald Trump’s selection of Darren Beattie for a top State Department role is yet another alarming indication of the president’s poor judgement.

“Beattie has a history of promoting antisemitic conspiracy theories, using misogynistic and racially charged rhetoric, and associating with white nationalists.

“Just last year, Beattie tweeted that ‘competent white men must be in charge if you want things to work’ and called Israel ‘colonialist.’ Also disturbing is Beattie’s use of the term ‘Zios,’ a term broadly considered to be an antisemitic slur, disparaging Jews supporting Israel. He’s unfit to serve in the U.S. government in any capacity — let alone in a key role in ‘selling’ America abroad.

“This appointment raises doubt about Trump’s professed commitment to addressing antisemitism. Elevating extremists like Beattie only serves to normalize their odious views.”
