Following the Senate’s confirmation of business leader Dilawar Syed as Deputy Administrator of the Small Business Administration (SBA), Democratic Majority for Israel released the following statement:
“We’re thrilled to congratulate Dilawar Syed on his Senate confirmation as Deputy Administrator of the Small Business Administration. Mr. Syed’s experience as an entrepreneur, successful businessman, and community leader makes him extremely well-qualified to serve in this role. We embrace the historic nature of his nomination— Mr. Syed is now the highest-ranking Muslim-American to serve in the executive branch in U.S. history.
“It’s shameful that because of Republican obstruction, it’s taken more than two years to reach this historic day. Some Republicans falsely accused Mr. Syed of holding anti-Israel views. In fact, Mr. Syed has traveled to Israel, conducted business with Israelis, has personally mentored Israeli entrepreneurs, supports economic cooperation between our two countries and is unequivocal in his opposition to the BDS Movement. The Republican efforts to paint Mr. Syed as anti-Israel are completely dishonest.
“We congratulate Mr. Syed and wish him tremendous success in this vital role.”
