Democratic Majority for Israel’s CEO and President Mark Mellman issued the following statement today:
“On Yom HaShoah, Holocaust Remembrance Day, we remember the over six million Jews and millions of others who died during this darkest chapter of human history. Today, we honor the victims and pay tribute to the heroes who fought against the Nazi regime.
“While our thoughts today center on the atrocities visited on the Jewish people in the past, we must also reflect on the lessons learned and vow to tell the stories of those who suffered. More than seventy-five years after the liberation of concentration camps and nearly seventy-five years since the founding of the State of Israel, Jews across the globe are still facing antisemitism. Today is a reminder of the moral imperative to fight antisemitism and bigotry of every form.
“Over the last year, the Anti-Defamation League recorded a 36% increase from the year prior in antisemitic incidents in the United States, higher than any year since it began tracking in 1979. In just the past decade, antisemitic incidents have increased 500%.
“Now, more than ever, we must speak out publicly and privately against prejudice and intolerance. May the memory of those we lost be a blessing as we strive to build a world free from antisemitism, hatred and discrimination.”
