Today, Democratic Majority for Israel President & CEO Mark Mellman released the following statement:

“President Biden made the difficult decision to step aside and serve as a bridge for a new generation Democrats. We owe him our deepest gratitude for his lifetime of service to our country, his myriad accomplishments in the Senate and White House, for his lifelong support for the U.S.-Israel alliance, and for ensuring the Democratic nominee for President has a strong pro-Israel platform on which to run in November.”

“In his inaugural address — just days after Donald Trump spurred a violent mob into insurrection with his election denying lies — President Biden promised ‘to secure the future of America.’ He promised to repair, heal, and restore a nation gripped with fear, turmoil, disease, and economic uncertainty. Over the course of his tenure, and defying pundits, prognosticators, and political odds, President Biden has delivered on each of these promises.

“On Day One, the Biden-Harris Administration began working with Congress to jumpstart our economy, end the pandemic with an unprecedented national vaccine campaign, and reopen our schools.

“Under the President’s leadership, Congress passed the historic, once-in-a-generation Bipartisan Infrastructure Law that is revitalizing our nation’s roads, bridges, water systems and internet.

“The Biden-Harris Administration codified same-sex marriage in law, enacted the most significant gun violence prevention legislation in 30 years, brought down the cost of drugs and other necessities as inflation raged across the globe, and appointed the first Black woman to the U.S. Supreme Court — all with the slimmest Democratic majorities in the Senate and an openly hostile House Republican majority.

“On that cold January day, President Biden also promised to ‘repair our alliances and engage with the world once again.’ In word and deed, the Biden-Harris Administration has lived up to that pledge again and again.

“In the days following Hamas’ barbaric attacks on Israel on October 7th, 2023, President Biden stood with Israel at every turn — he delivered the strongest pro-Israel speech ever given by an American President, he became the first American president to visit Israel during wartime, he directed American forces to defend Israel from Iran’s unprecedented missile and drone attack in April, and the Biden-Harris Administration has provided Israel with billions in additional military aid so that it can defeat Hamas and defend itself from Iranian-back terrorist groups like Hezbollah.”
