Washington, D.C. (January 5th, 2022) — On the eve of the first anniversary of the January 6th Insurrection at the United States Capitol, Democratic Majority for Israel President and CEO Mark Mellman released the following statement:
“One year ago, we were disgusted, heartbroken, and called to action as violent extremists, at the urging of then-President Trump and his allies, assaulted the Capitol in one of the darkest days in our nation’s history. We are grateful that Congress was not bowed or broken, despite the attempted coup, and rightly certified the Electoral College victories of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris.
“Since that day, and through the work of the House Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the United States Capitol, we have learned much about the clear and deliberate plan to illegally overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election.
“Those involved in the plot to destroy America included elected officials, Trump campaign officials, administration officials, leaders of far-right movements, and President Trump himself. These individuals must be held accountable.
“In 2022, Americans will have the opportunity to show we do not tolerate anyone who puts their own ideology and ambition over the integrity of our democracy. We must ensure that former President Trump is not allowed to hold office again.”
