Washington, D.C. (September 9, 2026) — Democratic Majority for Israel President & CEO Brian Romick today released the following statement:

“DMFI is deeply concerned by the decision of the United Kingdom, Canada, and France to impose broad restrictions on trade with Israeli settlements in the West Bank, as well as by the British government’s decision to further restrict arms sales to Israel.

“We have been unequivocal: violence by extremist Israeli settlers is unacceptable, and the Israeli government must hold those responsible accountable. We have also consistently opposed settlement expansion and other unilateral actions that undermine the prospects for a negotiated two-state solution.

“But broad economic sanctions and an arms embargo are not the answer. These measures fail to distinguish between violent extremists and peaceful, established communities, including those widely expected to remain part of Israel under any negotiated two-state agreement. They also fail to address the responsibilities of Palestinian leaders, send a dangerous message to Israel’s enemies, and risk harming Palestinian workers and businesses without bringing Israelis and Palestinians closer to peace. At the same time, restrictions on Israel’s access to critical defense capabilities risk weakening its security and hardening divisions at a moment when diplomacy is urgently needed.”
