On Tuesday night, Donald Trump said that the “Jewish lobby” and the “Israel lobby” have lost their supposed “powerful” influence in Washington and that Congress is “becoming antisemitic.” Democratic Majority for Israel President & CEO Brian Romick released the following statement:
“Trump’s remarks invoking the so-called “Jewish lobby” are offensive, irresponsible, and rely on dangerous antisemitic tropes at a time when antisemitism is rising at alarming rates in America and around the world.
“The American Jewish community has a diverse range of political views, beliefs and values. It is not a monolith or part of a coordinated shadowy movement as President Trump suggests.
“Let’s be clear: while there is unquestionably a troubling rise in antisemitic and anti-Israel rhetoric in Congress, much of it is coming from the GOP and the highest levels of the Republican Party — from representatives like Marjorie Taylor Greene to Vice President JD Vance and from President Trump himself. And it must be disavowed at every opportunity.”
