The letter also calls on the UN to end the Commission of Inquiry into Israel
Democratic Majority for Israel welcomes a new bipartisan congressional letter, led by Representative Brad Schneider (D-IL-10), calling on UN Secretary General António Guterres and UN Human Rights Commissioner Dr. Volker Türk to relieve Special Rapporteur on the Situation of Human Rights in the Palestinian Territories, Francesca Albanese, of her duties due to her history of anti-Israel bias, and to end the one-sided Commission of Inquiry (COI), which unfairly targets Israel while ignoring the role of Palestinian rejectionism and terrorism.
“As the letter from Congressman Schneider and his colleagues makes clear, the UN has compiled a deeply troubling record of anti-Israel bias rooted in anti-Zionist antisemitism,” said DMFI President and CEO Mark Mellman. “Through her own record of antisemitic statements and her failure to condemn terrorism against Israelis — indeed her justification of terrorism — Ms. Albanese embodies the prejudices endemic in the United Nations system. She must be held accountable for her actions and relieved of her official duties.
“Ms. Albanese and the COI constitute a deep stain on the UN. At a time of rising antisemitism, a decent institution would do well to be rid of both,” added Mellman.
DMFI thanks Democratic Rep. Brad Schneider, as well as Reps. Henry Cuellar, Don Davis, Josh Gottheimer, Greg Landsman, Kathy Manning, Grace Meng, Jared Moskowitz, David Scott, Brad Sherman, David Trone, and Debbie Wasserman Schultz, for co-signing.
