Today, Democratic Majority for Israel made the following statement:
“While we are relieved that President Trump has finally rescinded the nomination of Ed Martin for U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia — one that stood little chance of advancing through the Senate Judiciary Committee — we are disturbed that the President made such a nomination in the first place.
“Ed Martin’s troubling record makes him unfit to serve in any position of public trust, let alone as the top federal prosecutor in our nation’s capital. He repeatedly praised a Nazi sympathizer convicted for his role in the January 6th insurrection, calling him a ‘great friend’ and ‘an amazing guy’ and he misled Congress under oath about that relationship. He compared President Biden to Adolf Hitler and questioned American Jews’ commitment to their faith if they vote for Democrats. These views are not just extreme — they are dangerous and disqualifying.
“The nomination of someone so deeply aligned with antisemitic, white nationalist, and anti-democratic ideologies should never be repeated. Given his history of hate, President Trump should not appoint Mr. Martin to any other role with the federal government.
“We will remain vigilant against efforts to install hateful extremists in positions of power and continue to advocate for justice, equality, and the rule of law.”
Since Martin was nominated, DMFI has raised awareness about his shocking and disturbing record through social media, public statements, the press, and as a cosigner on a letter from a coalition of Jewish organizations to the Senate Judiciary Committee raising our concerns.
