Today, Brian Romick, President and CEO of Democratic Majority for Israel, made the following statement:
“A proposal for a ceasefire in Gaza was on the table that would pause the fighting, free the hostages, and surge humanitarian aid into Gaza — and Hamas is the reason there is no deal. Once again, Hamas continues to put its terrorist goals ahead of the Gazan people, and as a result, innocent young children in Gaza will continue to suffer. Hamas deserves universal international condemnation — it continues to hold innocent hostages, as it has for nearly two years, and it blocks both the delivery of and access to food intended for children in Gaza.
“The entire international community must put greater pressure on Hamas to lay down its arms, release the hostages, and end this war. Israel must continue to do what is necessary to bring the hostages home and eliminate the threat Hamas poses.
“The humanitarian situation in Gaza is heartbreaking. We welcome the news that Arab countries will resume airdropping food into Gaza. This is an important step. Even as Hamas works to prolong this war and prevent food from getting to people in need, Israel — along with the United States, Egypt, Qatar, and the rest of the international community — must continue to work to get food to innocent children in Gaza.”
