Following House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer’s announcement that he’ll step down from Democratic leadership, Democratic Majority for Israel president and CEO Mark Mellman released the following statement:
“We are filled with gratitude for Majority Leader Hoyer’s four decades of service to America in the House of Representatives. His strong leadership and his ability to build consensus enabled him to pass a raft of important legislation that improved the lives of all Americans. Our country is a far better place today thanks to Steny Hoyer.
“Leader Hoyer has also been a true and steadfast friend of Israel, having led congressional delegations there for decades and ensuring that members of Congress learned not just about the important strategic relationship between the United States and Israel but also about the miracle of Israel’s very existence. He worked relentlessly to ensure Israel has the resources it needs to defend itself by itself and fought back against attempts to undermine the U.S.-Israel relationship.
“As a new Democratic leadership begins to take shape, we are certain they will proudly walk in the steps of the giants who came before them: Nancy Pelosi, Steny Hoyer and James Clyburn.”
