Today, Democratic Majority for Israel president and CEO Mark Mellman released the following statement:
“We are devastated for the millions of women across the country whose constitutional right to choose has been stripped away by the Supreme Court’s radical decision to overturn Roe vs Wade. Today’s decision is morally wrong and legally indefensible. It is a day of shame for the U.S. Supreme Court. With respect for the Court already at an historic low, this decision along with their gun control ruling and others, imperil the institution itself.
“The Republican Party, which improperly manipulated the process of putting Justices on the Court owns the consequences of these decisions.
“DMFI supports a woman’s right to choose, which has been, in Justice Gorsuch’s own words, ‘the law of the land’ for nearly 50 years. We are dismayed that Justices Gorsuch and Kavanaugh, among others, violated commitments they made to the U.S. Senate in ignoring this precedent. Very few people in this country want politicians to make these personal decisions for them. Women should be free to make choose on their own, with the doctors and families.
“We urge pro-choice lawmakers across the country to codify the right to choose in their state laws, and we hope pro-choice legislators in Congress can do the same and send a bill to President Biden’s desk.”
