Washington, D.C. (December 3, 2021) — Democratic Majority for Israel’s CEO and President Mark Mellman issued the following statement after the Democratic Socialists of America decided to put their support for Congressman Jamaal Bowman in limbo following his trip to Israel and vote for Iron Dome:

“While the once staunchly pro-Israel Democratic Socialists of America continues its persecution of Congressman Bowman for traveling to Israel and supporting the resupply of a defensive anti-missile system, it’s worth noting that the organization is wildly out of sync with responsible parties of the left elsewhere in the world.

“DSA’s effort to enforce radical anti-Israelism will fail in America as similar efforts have failed among responsible left parties in Europe.”

German Green Party leader and incoming foreign minister, Annalena Baerbock, recently said, “As Europeans, Germans, and Greens, we reject a boycott of Israel…If you say that you generally boycott Israel, then this stance is antisemitic.”

Germany’s Greens, along with the country’s Social Democratic Party (SPD), supported a parliamentary resolution stating, “Germany will combat every form of antisemitism…and condemn the BDS campaign and their call for a boycott of Israeli goods, businesses, and of Israeli scientists, artists, or athletes.”

Repudiating former leader Jeremy Corbyn, whose anti-Israel views were a key factor in the UK Labour Party’s dismal loss, new Party Leader Keir Starmer recently proclaimed, “Anti-Zionist antisemitism is the antithesis of the Labour tradition…The Labour party does not and will not support BDS.

Paris Mayor and French Social Party presidential candidate Anne Hidalgo has also rejected BDS.
