In response to Vice President Pence’s remarks at the Christians United for Israel summit that “there was a time that support for Israel was not a partisan issue … the party of Harry Truman, which did so much to help create the State of Israel, has been co-opted by people who promote rank, anti-Semitic rhetoric, and work to undermine the broad American consensus of support for Israel.” Democratic Majority for Israel President and CEO Mark Mellman issued the following statement:
“This is another naked attempt by the Trump administration to make U.S. support for Israel a wedge issue for perceived political gain, despite the damage it does to Israel. The Vice President knows the overwhelming majority of Democrats in the House and the Senate, plus the 23 Democratic Governors have long, strong pro-Israel records.”
