Democratic Majority for Israel Co-Chairs Ann Lewis and Todd Richman and President and CEO Mark Mellman issued the following statement today:
“We are heartbroken to learn that our friend and Board member Alisa Swidler has passed away. Alisa dedicated her life to improving the world for those in need. She spent the past twenty years as a fierce advocate for improving global health. As part of Charlize Theron’s Africa Outreach Project she worked to ensure that adolescents and mothers in South Africa had access to HIV treatments. She worked with the Clinton Global Initiative Asia to transport vaccines into remote areas of Timor-Leste; supported the Small Farmer Initiative in Malawi; and organized fundraising events in London and New York City. She traveled with the Clintons to monitor the Foundation’s work in Puerto Rico.
“Alisa was a dedicated and beloved wife to Josh and a mother to five wonderful children.
“Her legacy will live on through the many lives she has touched. Her work and ideas have helped shape DMFI from the very beginning, and for that we will always be grateful.
“The entire DMFI family sends our condolences to Alisa’s family and all the friends and colleagues who knew and loved her.”
