Stuart Kurlander

Stuart Kurlander is a Retired Health Care & Life Sciences Partner with Latham & Watkins LLP in Washington, DC.  Stuart founded and led for many years the Firm’s Global Health Care & Life Sciences Practice.  Stuart also founded and led the Firm’s Global Israel Practice which led to the opening of an office in Tel Aviv.  Today, Stuart is senior advisor to private equity firm Patient Square Capital and consults for other health care and life science companies.  Stuart is also an owner of MidAtlantic Media/WJW Group which includes the Washington Jewish Week, Baltimore Jewish Times and Philadelphia Jewish Exponent.

Stuart has a long history of involvement with in the Jewish community.  He is a Past President, Resource Development Vice President and Israel & Overseas Vice President for the Jewish Federation of Greater Washington.  Stuart currently serves on the Board of Trustees of the Jewish Community Foundation of the Jewish Federation of Greater Washington.   Stuart is also an Officer, Executive Committee Member and Board Member of the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC).  He is also JDC’s Global Programming Committee Chair (JDC 2035) and also Legal Committee Chair.  In these various roles along with his professional roles, Stuart has traveled to Israel close to 100 times. Stuart is former Chair of the American Committee for the Tel Aviv Foundation.  Stuart is also a member of the Board of Trustees of the Washington Institute for Near East Policy and is a member of the Israel Economic Forum.  He is a Wexner Heritage program alumni and also a former member of the National Young Leadership Cabinet of the Jewish Federations of Greater Washington.

Additionally, Stuart is a Founder of the Jewish LGBTQ Donor Network. Stuart also co-founded the Hineni Fellowship for LGBTQ Jewish Leadership.  Stuart was the first National Chair of Keshet, a leading organization working for the full inclusion of LGBTQ Jews in Jewish life.  He is also Founder and past Chair of the Kurlander Program on Gay and Lesbian Outreach and Engagement at the District of Columbia Jewish Community Center, which was selected twice by Slingshot as one of the 50 most innovative nonprofits in North American Jewish Life.  In 2016, Stuart led a LGBTQ Misson to Israel for the Jewish Federations of North American.  Stuart was a previous recipient of the Washington Business Journal LGBTQ+ Business Award.  Stuart is also a recipient several other distinguished awards and recognitions both for his professional and community leadership accomplishments.  He splits him time between homes in Miami Beach, Florida and Washington, DC.  He is married to his husband David.
