“We are heartbroken to learn of the passing of our dear friend Congressman Alcee Hastings. A vital voice in Congress for 28 years, Hastings broke barriers, won victories for marginalized groups, fought for human rights at home and abroad, and championed a strong U.S.-Israel relationship. A civil rights lawyer, Florida’s first Black Federal judge and the longest-serving Member of Congress from Florida, his impact will be lasting, and his passing is a tremendous loss.
“Our sister organization, DMFI PAC, was proud to have hosted him last year for an event to elevate the Democratic values he championed.
“We send our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones. May his memory be a blessing.”
