Brian Romick, President and CEO of Democratic Majority for Israel, made the following statement:

“We are thrilled that tonight, voters in Virginia and New Jersey elected strong, mainstream, Democratic pro-Israel governors — Abigail Spanberger and Mikie Sherrill — to lead their states. Across the country, Democratic-led efforts prevailed. In Pennsylvania, judicial retention votes succeeded. In California, Proposition 50 is likely to pass. These victories were guided by capable leaders Governor Josh Shapiro and Governor Gavin Newsom, underscoring voters’ confidence in Democratic leadership.

“At the same time, while we congratulate Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani, we urge him to prioritize fulfilling his campaign promises to bring down costs, not foreign policy issues that are unrelated to the everyday lives of most New Yorkers. As he prepares to take office, we expect him to uphold his commitments to New York’s Jewish community — including increasing funding for hate-crime prevention and working not only to ‘protect’ Jewish New Yorkers but to ‘celebrate and cherish them.’ We urge him to forcefully condemn violent rhetoric or actions targeted at the Jewish community.

“It’s worth remembering that the New York City electorate is not reflective of the rest of the nation as underscored by the mainstream records of Governors-elect Spanberger and Sherrill.”
