Following the announcement that President Biden will nominate former Treasury Secretary Jack Lew to be U.S. Ambassador to Israel, Democratic Majority for Israel President & CEO Mark Mellman released the following statement:

“I’m thrilled to congratulate Secretary Jack Lew on his nomination by President Biden to be the next U.S. Ambassador to Israel. Secretary Lew will bring to his new role decades of top-level experience in both government and the private sector, including as Senior Advisor to the Speaker of the House, Director of the Office of Management and Budget, Chief of Staff to the President, and as Secretary of the Treasury.

“Serving on the Board of the National Library of Israel, as Executive Director of the Center for Middle East Research, and as Deputy Secretary of State, Secretary Lew is well-versed in the intricacies of international relations and the pressing issues facing Israel and the U.S.-Israel alliance.

“On a personal note, I have had the privilege of calling Jack a friend for many years. His integrity, dedication, and wisdom have always been evident, and I have no doubt that he will bring those same qualities to his role as ambassador.

“Israel is a vital ally and partner to the United States, and the relationship between our two countries is of paramount importance. The secretary’s nomination is a testament to the Biden Administration’s deep commitment to strengthening this bond.

“We urge the Senate to recognize Secretary Lew’s expertise and dedication and to swiftly confirm him as the next U.S. Ambassador to Israel. In these challenging times, and with so much at stake, it’s imperative that we have someone of Secretary Lew’s caliber representing our interests and values in Israel.”
