Following President Biden’s nomination of business leader Dilawar Syed as Deputy Administrator of the Small Business Administration (SBA), Democratic Majority for Israel released the following statement:

“Mr. Syed’s experience as an entrepreneur, successful businessman, and community leader makes him extremely well-qualified to serve as SBA’s Deputy Administrator.

“We also note the historic nature of his nomination — if confirmed, Mr. Syed would become the highest-ranking Muslim-American to serve in the executive branch in U.S. history.

“It’s shameful that several Republican senators have launched baseless attacks on Mr. Syed, falsely accusing him of holding anti-Israel views. Mr. Syed has traveled to Israel, conducted business with Israelis, has personally mentored Israeli entrepreneurs, and supports economic cooperation between our two countries.

“He is a longtime advocate for efforts to strengthen ties between Muslim and Jewish communities and has been unequivocal in his opposition to the BDS Movement. Republican efforts to paint Mr. Syed as anti-Israel are shamelessly dishonest.

“We urge his swift Senate confirmation and wish him tremendous success in this vital role.”
