Democratic Majority for Israel’s CEO and President Mark Mellman made the following statement after President Trump announced an immigrant ban today:
“This repulsive move is the latest attempt by President Trump to advance his xenophobic agenda by stoking fear and racism about our nation’s immigrants – this time during a global pandemic. Trying to shift the blame for his own failures is not going to work, and using this tactic stokes hate and division at a time when we need unity.
“It’s especially appalling that his announcement comes on Yom HaShoah, Holocaust Remembrance Day. The same anti-immigrant prejudice on which Trump is attempting to play was evident in U.S. law in the 1930’s which prevented Jews from fleeing Nazi persecution.
“Today is also a time to vow that now more than ever, we must speak out against bigotry and intolerance.
“Democratic Majority for Israel stands in solidarity with immigrants and is grateful for the enormous contributions they are making during the pandemic and every single day.”
