Democratic Majority for Israel’s CEO and President Mark Mellman issued the following statement today on behalf of Democratic Majority for Israel:

“On Yom HaShoah, we remember those who perished during one of the darkest chapters in human history and honor the survivors. Six million Jews were systematically murdered by the Nazis during the Holocaust as were millions of others, based on their ethnicity, sexuality, and political or religious beliefs. We also honor those who resisted and fought against the Nazi regime.

“Remembrance must lead to action, and on this day we are mindful that hatred and bigotry have reared their ugly heads in the midst of this pandemic — from the alarming rise of anti-Asian harassment around the country to the spread of conspiracy theories blaming Jews and Israel for the virus. Yom HaShoah reminds us that in uncertain times like these, there are those who will seek to capitalize on our fear and anxiety to further their own hateful agenda. Now, more than ever, we must speak out against such racism and intolerance.

It is incumbent on every political leader in both parties to forcefully condemn antisemitism and all forms of bigotry.”
