A Democratic pro-Israel group is planning to use the convention to trumpet Kamala Harris’ support for Israel.
Democratic Majority for Israel will distribute booklets at the convention that promote Harris’ support for Israel, the group announced Monday. It represents a counterprogramming of sorts as pro-Palestinian protesters organize around the convention, worrying Democrats about intraparty tensions overshadowing the show of unity they’re hoping to project.
The booklet from the DMFI calls the Biden administration “the most pro-Israel administration in American history” and lists past remarks from Harris praising the U.S.-Israel relationship. The booklet also points to Harris’ support for American military aid to Israel and her opposition to the boycott, divestment, and sanctions movement, known as BDS, that seeks to financially isolate Israel.
“Over the course of her entire career, Vice President Harris’ record on Israel is clear: she has always supported America’s ironclad commitment to Israel’s security and a strong U.S.-Israel relationship more broadly,” Mark Mellman, DMFI president, said in the press release announcing the literature distribution effort. “Anyone who claims otherwise is distorting her record for political gain. Our booklet provides the facts — and just the facts.”
DMFI said the booklet will be distributed to “its pro-Israel network.”
Many on the left have pressured Harris to pledge to support a permanent ceasefire and arms embargo to Israel as fighting continues in the Middle East. Her nascent campaign has already begun to grapple with the fractured Democratic coalition over the issue.
